5 Things to Expect at Beervana 2024
August is drawing nearer, so it’s time to get your mates together and start planning your experience in Wellington on 23 + 24 August. Here’s just a taste of what’s in store this year at the ultimate celebration of good beer.
International Breweries
2024 will see the return of the Beervana International Invitational for the first time in five years. Originally launched in 2014, this initiative has seen breweries from the US, UK, and Japan exhibit in Wellington, but had been on hold in recent years due to you-know-what.
This year, thanks to Singapore Airlines, we’ll be showcasing the history, breadth, and creativity of German beer with Bavaria’s Schneider Weisse and Berlin’s Schneeeule both coming over to pour their brews.
In addition, we’ll have a number of Australian breweries hopping across the ditch with four from the Sunshine Coast (Moffat Brewing, Brouhaha, Blackflag, Coolum Beer Co.), as well as One Drop returning from Sydney. Last year our Aussie breweries were extremely popular with all of them selling out of beer in the final session!
Birthday beers
Beervana has long been a place where Aotearoa’s breweries have come to celebrate big milestones and this year’s no different! Duncan’s, who brought the party vibes last year with a DJ on site, will be celebrating their 10th birthday with plans for a crocodile bike and cake!
Mahurangi Oysters
Incredible food offerings
The kai at Beervana is as memorable as the beer and we’ve got a great mix of fan favourites and festival newcomers on the menu this year. Highlights include the return of Mahurangi Oysters, while Wellington’s iconic Boulcott St Bistro will be back serving whitebait fritters. They’ll be joined by Auckland’s Ansum Pasty Company, Wasabi Chicken’s Korean Fried Chicken, and Kāpiti ice cream will be serving up something special for those looking for a sweet treat.
More than just beer
Beervana is a celebration of good beer. But you don’t have to love beer to have a good time. We reckon that if you don’t like beer, you just haven’t tried the right one yet, but there’s plenty to enjoy whether you’re a beer lover or yet to be(er) converted. There’ll be heaps to try including ciders, alcoholic ginger beers, beer-based cocktails, and non-alcoholic beers.
Unusual entertainment
A new experience awaits around every twist and turn at Sky Stadium. Those feeling competitive can play table tennis with the Radio Hauraki crew, or if you want to up your brewing game you can listen to a homebrewing talk. Otherwise you can just chill with a delicious brew and enjoy the tasty selection of live music.
